
The Dayak tribe's traditional long house, called Umag Daru, defines the harmonious existence of extended families in one dwelling. Each head of the family is provided a big, spacious room called " lamin".
A long house spans up to 400 meters and can contain as many as 40 lamins. The room in the middle of the Umang Daru, the Lamin Jau, is the quarters of the tribal chief. Long house are made of ulin wood, and are built to stilts, accessible only trough one common wooden stairs. The walls are decorated with carvings known as " kalung".
Devider separate one Lamin from another. At the front of a long house is a statue, the Hudog, to keep the Umag Daru away from diseases and evil spirits.

Traditional costume and Dance of Benuaq Tribe

The Dayaks are known for their colorful traditional costume, each of which possesses special meanings and social status of the wearer. Among the Benuaq women, traditional dresses are made from doyo leaves or tree barks, matched with ketau or tapeh made also from doyo leaves. Men wear the same , but use kesapu'ug or caps.
This Particular dress is worn for special festivities, like celebrating the victory of a tribal war. Such dance, the " Gong Dance ", is now only performed for guests attending their festivities.

Dayak Tribe

Dayak tribes, bridal costumes each differ in their weaving motifs. The bride usually wears a " sapai ", a dress elaborately decorated with beads and tiny bells, and a ketau tapeh, a cloth woven by the bridge herself using special tree roots for materials.

The bridegroom wears a woven red colored hat, called, " kesapu'up", and a shirt or "sapai" woven also by the bridegroom himself. He also wears a white or pink colored loin cloth called "bellet bagamai" to complete hi wedding attire.

Culture of Minang - West Sumatra

Rumah gadang (big house) are the traditional house of the Minangkabau- West Sumatra. The architecture, construction, internal and external decoration, and the functions of the house reflect the culture and values of the Minangkabau. A rumah gadang serves as a residence, a hall for family meetings, and for ceremonial activities.

Women of the Minangkabau, a traditionally matrialchal, wear their wealth and influence on their hedress. Heavy and often elaborately crafted, the bridal costumes glitter with real or plated gold, produces mostly in Kota Gadang, the center for fine silver and gold filigree and hand embroidery.

Young Minangkabau girls spend time weaving ceremonial costumes. As a cottage industry, richly woven cloth have become one of best souvenir items from West Sumatra

Seudati Dance from Aceh

A traditional but popular dance, The Seudati dance is performed by eight dance male. Movement depict heroism and valor, accompanied by trampling, snapping of the fingers, and chest beating, to the rhythm of merry instrumental and song accompaniment.
Seudati dance is a traditional dance typical of Aceh, which is popular in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam era of the kingdom of Aceh and until now very heroic.Seudati come from Arabian language, Syahadatan or Syahadati, it means confession or Syahadat sentence. This dance already developed in Aceh since hundred years ago. Characteritics of Seudati are heroic, cheerful, and equality. This dance not using music instrument but the dancers making music from their fingers, hit their fit to the floor, hit their hands to the chest and also the lyrics which sang by two narators and usually called as Aneuk Syahi. The lyrics usually bring the theme about religion or information about nationality.

Grebeg Syawal Ceremony

This ceremony expresses praise and gratefulness to god by the moslems after having completed their fasting duty in the sacred month of Ramadhan.
At 08.00 a.m the ceremony begins wiyh a parade of Kraton guards in their colourful comprising of Wirobrojo, Daeng, Ketanggung, Jogokaryo, Praawirotomo,Mantrijero.

Bantul Town Anniversary

The Ceremony of " NUMPLAK WAJIK"

A ceremony preparing the making of the Gunungan " Wajik " is made of sticky rice cooked with sugar and coconut cream. Wajik and other ingredients to make the Gunungan are prepared in the Magangan hall at the Kraton back yard.
The moment the wajik is turned over on the big round wooden tray (the base for the Gunungan), people beat stimultaneously on the rice mountain. Sekaten Ceremony of Yogyakarta

Held during weeks preceding the commemoration of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.Sekaten begins at midnight when two sets of ancient and sacred gamelan percussion instruments are brought in procession from the western side of the palace square.
During the whole week except on Thursday night and Friday mornings, the two sets of gamelan are played turns continuously night and day.
Sekaten is accompanied by a fair at the square in front of the mosque where sorts of local handicrafts and item of folk art are sold. It ends, when the set of gamelan is brought back again in prosession to the Kraton.

Grebeg Suro Ponorogo

Javanese Muslims celebrate the New Year (1426H)which begins on the first day of the month of Suro (Muharam). One of the highlights of the celebration is the 11th National Reog Festival, held in the town of Ponorogo.
The central feature of the famous reog performance is the gigantic mask, consisting of a tiger's head and fun of peacock leathers weighing upwards of 40kg, worn by a dance in trance. The event begins at 08.00 am.
Other event are art and cultural performances, various contests and products sales. The event is a welcome opportunity for the young people to find matches . It is linked to a popular folktale of the beautiful princes, Putri Mandalika, who was willing to sacrifice herself by jumping in to the sea and promised that she would return in the form of the nyale once of year. Tradition demands that certain rituals should be held preceding the event.

Tana Toraja, Toraja Deat Feast
The Toraja dead rituals are elaborates feasts which hold the greatest significance in thee society. The more elaborated the rituals, the higher the family's gratitude and esteem considered to be for departed member.
The rituals begin with the taking off the coffin from the family house, accompanied by the tau-tau, a wooden effigy of the dead person.
Traditional welcoming dance are performed for the guests and bull, cock and kick fighting (sisemba) are featured. The mass slaughter of buffaloes and pigs takes place afterwards. The final part of the ritual is when the corpse is taken to its final resting place in cave high up in the cliffs. A funeral feast for a high-rangking Torajan often last for many days.
